Mosquitoes are a common nuisance in Coiba National Park in Panama, particularly during the rainy season when they thrive in the humid environment. These pesky insects are not only bothersome, but they also pose a health risk as carriers of various mosquito-borne diseases.
One of the most prevalent mosquito-borne diseases in Panama is dengue fever, which is transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito. Symptoms of dengue fever can range from mild flu-like symptoms to severe dengue hemorrhagic fever, which can be fatal if not treated promptly.
In addition to dengue fever, other mosquito-borne diseases such as Zika virus and chikungunya are also a concern in Panama and Coiba National Park. These diseases can cause symptoms such as fever, joint pain, rash, and in the case of Zika virus, birth defects in pregnant women.
